Warner Bros. Pictures has unleashed the first teaser trailer for their upcoming sci-fi/disaster movie Geostorm.

Although I wouldn't call myself the world's biggest fan of disaster movies per se, blockbuster films like Twister (R.I.P. Bill Paxton), The Day After Tomorrow, Armageddon, Independence Day and San Andreas have always grasped my imagination and been a whole lot of fun to watch. Over the years, is seems like they've gotten bigger and bigger and from the looks of this trailer, Geostorm is as massive as they can get.

Directed by Independence Day writer-producer Dean Devlin in his first-ever directing gig, Geostorm features a pretty impressive cast that even includes a couple of Oscar nominees.

So who's starring in Geostorm? We have Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Maria Lara, Daniel Wu, Ed Harris, Andy Garcia, Adepero Oduye (12 Years a Slave), Amr Waked (Lucy), Robert Sheehan (Misfits), Eugenio Derbez (Instructions Not Included), Mare Winningham (American Horror Story) and Katheryn Winnick (Vikings). Here's the official synopsis:

After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world's leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong — the system built to protect the Earth is attacking it, and it's a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything ... and everyone along with it.

Gerard Butler stars as Jake, a scientist who, along with his brother, Max, played by Jim Sturgess, is tasked with solving the satellite program's malfunction. Abbie Cornish stars as Secret Service agent Sarah Wilson; Alexandra Maria Lara as Ute Fassbinder, the ISS astronaut who runs the space station; Daniel Wu as Cheng, the Hong Kong-based supervisor for the Dutch Boy Program; with Andy Garcia as U.S. President Andrew Palma; and Ed Harris as Secretary of State Leonard Dekkom.

Geostorm opens on Oct. 20.
