Half famous Nintendo franchise, half Broadway musical, half not good at fractions.
You don't really get a lot of games starring a woman in a high-tech suit fighting alien pirates, an enormous brain and intergalactic jellyfish, do you? And that's probaby for the best, because, really, nothing's going to top Metroid or its star, Samus Aran.
Samus, like a lot of Nintendo characters, is usually the strong, silent type. She doesn't do much talking so that players can imagine themselves as her. Link and Mario operate in much the same way. So fans often like to imagine what these characters might actually be like.
And this video, from songwriter and popular YouTuber Brent "brentalfloss" Black, features some of the most high-quality visuals you're likely to see from a fan work. The song featured, "Fight for Love," reimagines Samus as a bounty hunter who is saving the day not just for glory but because there's someone back home she knows is relying on her. It's a pretty radical departure, but, hey, ain't that what fan work's all about?
The CGI video, done by Osuka Animation, has been in the works since 2011, and the end result is really stunning. And the singer Black tapped, Alysha Umphress, really brings that Broadway gravitas to the whole affair.
What do you think? Should Nintendo be bringing Samus to Broadway?
