Wynonna Earp 2.7 recap: That's how it goes

Warning: This TV recap contains some pretty massive spoilers for the Wynonna Earp episode "Everybody Knows." If you haven't seen the episode and don't want to be spoiled, turn back now. Otherwise, proceed at your own risk.

THIS is everything I love about Wynonna Earp boiled down into a single hour. Seriously. It's got some laugh out loud moments, great one-liners ("Bring your own speculum?"), further probing of the various relationships, booze, more pregnancy drama, an expansion of the whole Earp mythology, booze, a spooky and hilarious side quest for the dudes, epic mustaches, booze. Everything you could ever want from an episode of this show.

So, let's break it down, shall we?

First up, Wynonna finally gets checked out by an actual doctor just to make sure everything is a-o-k with her little parasite. She asks about genetic testing, since, I don't know, maybe you can detect curses in DNA? Whatever her goal here it requires blood samples from both parents, which means Wynonna is gonna need to tell Doc that he might not actually be the father. You didn't think paternity was gonna be that easy, did you?

Wynonna's story in this episode revolves around figuring that out, and she drags Nicole along for the ride. After all, someone has to consume all the alcohol so Wynonna can keep up the pretense of not being pregnant even though she's really very pregnant. Let me just take this opportunity to say that Katherine Barrell is the MVP of this episode because drunk Nicole is pretty much the greatest thing I have ever seen.

That's not to take away from another just wonderful performance by Melanie Scrofano who is bringing her A game every damn week. This time, she's playing the emotional turmoil that comes with the idea that she may have gotten pregnant by, but definitely had sex with, a revenant. That's … not good. Is it even possible?

The revenant seems to think so, and everything in the episode points quite heavily to the idea that yes, not only is it possible, but it's pretty likely. He gloats a lot about having knocked up the Earp heir before Wynonna, realizing what it means to do so, shoots him in the head and sends him back to hell. The most heartbreaking moment of the night is when Waverly asks whose baby it is, and Wynonna responds "ours." Jonas is, of course, the polar opposite to Doc. He's everything cruel and disgusting in the world, and especially everything horrible about accidentally conceiving a child with an asshole.

This whole baby daddy excursion also shines a very intriguing light on the parentage of one Waverly Earp. We still only suspect that she might not be an Earp, taking the word of another revenant, one Bobo Del Rey. But if I can take a moment to over-analyze the situation, there are two little moments that are definitely meant to send us down that path. First, when Nicole says "so if he's a revenant and you're the Earp heir then the baby is … Waverly." I know, it's a joke, but we're overanalyzing here.

The second is when Jonas talks about how there's a rumor that "it's happened before" - it being a revenant breeding with a human -- they specifically cut to Waverly. It's tiny, I know, but either Dominique just gives good reaction or that was on purpose.

Once all of this is over, though, it's time for the Earp sisters to have their essential bonding time. This time, though, Waverly is the one who needs help bearing a burden and her sister is there for her. After weeks of carrying it around, Waverly finally tells Wynonna that she might not be an Earp. With the cat out of the bag, it will be great to see how these two choose to deal with it.

The rest of the episode is just a great buddy comedy starring Doc, Dolls, Jeremy and this one dude's epic mustache. It's so great to see these guys hanging out, having hijinks and not being babies about the whole Wynonna situation. Also, seeing Dolls meet one of his heroes was pretty adorable.

Random Thoughts:

Comic-Con joke. Do you think they knew this episode was going to air during SDCC?

Doc is a really stand-up guy all episode long. We tend to give dudes too much credit for being involved when they get someone pregnant, but he's just so sweet, I can't help it.

Doc has learned the word fanboy.

Does Wynonna own her own speculum?

More ghosts, please!
