X-Men star Olivia Munn says Dark Phoenix feels like 'a two parter'

X-Men: Apocalypse, last year's installment in Fox's increasingly tangled film saga covering Marvel Comics' mutant characters, left a lot of question unanswered. After the sorta clean slate offered by Days of Future Past, the film was a chance to introduce some new takes on old characters (Storm, Jean Grey, Cyclops) and deliver a fresh start for others. Among the fresh start crowd was Psylocke, played by Olivia Munn.

In Apocalypse, Psylocke is part of En Saban Nur's (Oscar Isaac) group of villainous mutants, but she escapes during the climactic sequence. So we already assumed she'd be back in some capacity. In a new interview with Collider, primarily promoting The LEGO Ninjago Movie, Munn let this little detail slip about the next X-Men film.

"I don’t know what I’m supposed to say. I’m supposed to be vague. That’s my answer. I’m horrible at that. It’s like a two parter, this movie. That’s more than I’ve said, in general. I don’t know why people have to be so secretive."

Well, there's potentially a lot to unpack in that comment, or not. Munn is obviously burdened by the weight of superhero franchise secrecy, so she's trying to say as little as she possibly can. Her "two parter" comment is certainly the kind of thing that will raise eyebrows among fans, though. Does she mean Dark Phoenix is the beginning of a two-part story, or does she mean the film is so big it feels like a two-part story. Her phrasing would suggest the latter, but it's really hard to tell at this point. Whatever the case, any X-Men fan knows a film with the title Dark Phoenix is bound to be huge.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters November 2, 2018.
