Production on Fox's new X-Men TV series Gifted is currently underway in Dallas, Texas, and to celebrate the start of filming, producer Lauren Shuler Donner has shared the show's first behind-the-scenes pic.
The image reveals fan favorite Amy Acker (Angel, Person of Interest), who stars as Kate Stewart, a woman “struggling with her separation from her husband, Reed, and her increasingly challenging teenage children. When her family situation takes a dark turn, she finds that she's stronger than she thinks.”
The image below doesn’t reveal much in terms of anything that could be considered spoilery. We can see the actress on a monitor, sitting in a car and obviously engaged in conversion with someone sitting in the driver’s seat. Could it be her estranged husband, Reed, played by True Blood’s Stephen Moyer? Check it out (notice Donner calls the series The Gifted):
Gifted also stars Jamie Chung (Gotham) as Marvel Comics mutant Blink, Sean Teale (Incorporated) as Marcos Diaz/Eclipse, Emma Dumont (Pretty Little Liars) as Magneto’s daughter Lorna Dane/Polaris, Blair Redford (Satisfaction) as Thunderbird, Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren and Percy Hynes White as Andy.
The upcoming Fox and Marvel co-produced X-Men series, penned by Matt Nix (Burn Notice), is set in the same universe as the films and is executive produced by Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer (who is currently directing the pilot), Matt Nix, Simon Kinberg and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.
Having made sweet music with Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley on FX's other X-Men series Legion, (which concludes its eight-episode-run this coming Wednesday and has already nabbed a Season 2 renewal) I'll admit that I have ridiculously high hopes for this one as well. How about you?
