Not every screenplay is the product of a lone screenwriter. Some of the world's most beloved movies and television shows are based on the works of authors whose novels have reached into the hearts and minds (and wallets) of readers. And as we know, some adaptations of their works are more successful than others.
The Hollywood Reporter recently determined the "most powerful" of these authors, ranked in order of influence (which, technically, makes them the "most influential"). And the top three most powerful happen to be fantasy and horror writers:
1. J.K. Rowling
2. Stephen King
3. George R.R. Martin
If these names aren't familiar to you, hi, we're Blastr! Welcome!
Other names on the list include authors who have provided the source material for more than 300 movie and TV projects: Terry Brooks (The Shannara series, finally in production), Veronica Roth (Divergent series), Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and others), Diana Gabaldon (Outlander series) and Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games series).
It's been a long time since we've had to explain that science fiction/fantasy/horror is a genre worth taking seriously. But you need more proof, you have it right here.
The Hollywood Reporter based its results on number of books sold, number of Twitter followers and, of course, box-office earnings.
