Splice director Vincenzo Natali's latest horror offering has Abigail Breslin (Little Rock from Zombieland) staggering around a dusty old mansion stuffed full of malevolent spirits with murder on their minds. But who's doing the haunting? Haunter is another return to the old-fashioned supernatural thriller resurrected by recent fright flicks like The Conjuring, The Woman In Black, Insidious and The Apparition.
True, the Hollywood horror neighborhood is getting a little crowded with paranormal tenants lately, but this lower-budget entry produced by IFC Films has the Cube director doing a clever reversal in the plot (think The Others) that may elevate this beyond the typical domestic boos and bumps.
Here's the official synopsis:
Haunter is a ghost story told from an unlikely perspective: Lisa (Abigail Breslin) has the uncanny feeling that she relives the same day again and again. Ever so slowly, the teenager begins to suspects that herself, as well as the unsuspecting rest of her family are in fact ghosts, haunting the house they 'live' in. But if so, what caused their demise?
Haunter possesses theaters on October 18, 2013.
