Austin Young is a portrait photographer and video artist based in Los Angeles. Since 1985, Young has created an encyclopedic documentation of sub and trans culture in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Austin Young reconstructs tropes of Pop Art and pop culture into alarmingly brilliant new icons. His subjects include Leigh Bowery, Dame Edna, Lypsinka, Lady Bunny, Squeaky Blonde, and Jeffree Star. His celebrity portrait subjects include Oliver Stone, Siouxsie Sioux, Sandra Bernhard, Olivia Wilde, Simon Cowell, Margaret Cho, Diamanda Galas, Elvira, Deborah Harry, and Amy Poehler. Young's portraits and art have been featured in major publications all over the world including Vogue, Rolling Stone, Flaunt and Interview Magazine. His Work has shown at LACMA, Matedero Madrid, Ars Electronica, WOW Storefront Gallery, and Stephen Cohen. He has recently broke attendance records at LACMA with his collaborators Fallen Fruit and received praise for Tranimal 2010 at the Hammer Museum as "One of Top Ten fashion trends in LA" in LA Weekly. Young has added video production to his oeuvre and he has 6 million hits on his YOUTUBE videos.
