Barbara Sukowa

Sukowa, a renowned German actress, has received numerous awards for her film and stage work, including Best Actress accolades at Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival and Montreal Film Festival.  Her breakthrough in cinema came with her portrayal of Mieze in Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 1980 film “Berlin Alexanderplatz,” which earned her the Best Young Actress Award in Germany. Most recently, she completed filming for three upcoming features, including “Ad Astra” starring Brad Pitt, “Gloria” starring Julianne Moore, and A24’s “Native Son.” Sukowa has worked with leading film directors and writers including R.W.Fassbinder, Lars von Trier, M. von Trotta and David Cronenberg, and is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Bavarian Film Award.

Additionally, Sukowa is a Grammy®-nominated concert artist who has worked as a soloist with top orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonics, Vienna Philharmonics, Cleveland Philharmonic and Los Angeles Philharmonics.  She has worked with world-renowned conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Reinbert de Leeuw, Esa-Pekka Salonen and David Robertson, among others.  She is also a singer in the rock band X-Patsys, which she founded with visual artists Jon Kessler and Robert Longo. Their recently released CD “Devouring Time" was named a best new release in Germany.

Sukowa currently resides in New York.
