Stomp into this first look at Mazinger Z, a new animated feature adapted from the iconic '70s manga series created by Go Nagai. Released by Toei Animation, this rousing preview picks up the events 10 years after the Mazinger Z manga, which debuted in 1972 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. A subsequent TV anime series ran for 92 episodes, from 1972 to 1974, with a veritable stampede of multiple TV series, spinoffs, comics, toys and anime movies following in its massive wake.
Here's the official description of the original series:
From the island of Bardos in the Aegean Sea comes a new threat to humanity in the form of Doctor Hell and his army of mechanical beasts. However, a new hero stands in his way: Mazinger Z, a giant robot built out of the indestructible metal chogokin and equipped with an arsenal of advanced weaponry. Piloting Mazinger Z is hotheaded teenager Kouji Kabuto, who strives to avenge the death of his grandfather and protect Japan from Doctor Hell's forces.
No word on the exact release date for this titanic tale of a boy and his weaponized robot, but let's hope for a U.S. premiere at some point.
