Previously titled Saw: Legacy, the new Saw flick headed to theaters this Halloween has been given a much better title by naming it Jigsaw, after the franchise's psychopathic orchestrator of twisted justice. Tobin Bell played the diabolical deliverer of death, but his character is now deceased, with his master plans still being enacted by misguided acolytes.

Incidentally, Jigsaw was the preferred first title of the debut film written by James Wan and Leigh Whannell. So if anything, the latest sequel is finally bringing things full circle.

Directed by Peter and Michael Spierig (Predestination, Daybreakers), the precise plot of Jigsaw is still under wraps, but we do have a story summary by Bloody Disgusting:

Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?

Jigsaw pedals into theaters on October 27 and stars Mandela Van Peebles, Hannah Anderson, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson and Josiah Black.

How do you like the new title, and do you think we'll see a return of the titular trapmaster himself?
