WARNING: If you don't want to know what happened in this episode, don't read this photo recap!
Quick recap as we head to Utah this week: Grace wants to save her sister, Christopher is trapped at Heart Industries, and everyone has a pulse-charge in their heads so Julian Slink can kill them if he wants or if they get too far away from each other.
Because this is a TV show about a TV show, Julian Slink is going to spend this episode on the phone getting network notes. Very meta and relatable - and basically, that's all he's doing for a bit. Stay tuned.
When Grace and Arthur bend the rim of a tire, they realize they have to detour through "Steel City" to get a new one. Turns out, after the big fracking earthquake, troops were sent in to Steel City and never heard from again. So, this should go fine.
Turns out Domi and Cliff entered the blood drive as a bonding experience. They used to kill people together all the time. But lately the spark has run out. Can they salvage what's left of their murderous marriage? In their hybrid blood-car?
Look, we're not going to complain about this Christopher storyline because we haven't really seen him with clothes on all that much and it's fine. But Aki's about to do a little behavior modification, so…buckle up.
Turns out Steel City is run by people obsessed with corporate double speak. Synergy! Low hanging fruit! Grace and Arthur hide long enough for the bad guys to steal their car. Biding their time, they'll find a way to get it and flee.
It turns out that at night, this area is beseiged by creatures called glimmers. They used to be people, but now they're mutants addicted to gasoline and afraid of light. Because if they have lights shined on them, they explode.
Turns out, Heart Industries created the chemical that turned the humans to glimmers. When glimmers kill the leader of this corporate jargon gang, Arthur and Grace feed one of them to the car. Turns out, the blood of the glimmers makes the car go WAY faster than regular blood.
Domi and Cliff, it turns out, are doing just fine in the marriage department. After spending the day having conversations, they remember they really do love each other and have a renewed sense of purpose to win this race.
Grace and Arthur race toward the finish line, and pass by Clown Dick, who’s distracted by one of the Mayhem girls. He came in last, so Slink blows his head off with the pulse-charge in his skull. Goodbye, Clown Dick. You had a terrible name.
Finally, Grace strikes a deal with The Scholar. She'll provide him with Glimmer blood and he'll mess with the remote control Slink uses to blow their heads off. It's crazy enough to work, and will buy them just enough time to stage a raid on the asylum. Will Grace finally rescue her sister?
