Season 9 kicked off with the artists creating some rather impressive alien-animal hybrids.

Welcome to a new season of Face Off … and a new season of our occasional disagreement with the judges when it comes to Top Looks.

How to Watch

Catch up on Face Off on Peacock or the SYFY App.

Whilst we certainly respect the professional opinions of Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill and Neville Page, we don't always see eye to eye with them. Sometimes a Safe or Bottom Look is one of our favorites of the evening … and sometimes a Top Look doesn't always impress us as much.

Let's get right to it with the Season 9 premiere, in which the artists were put into pairs to create alien-animal hybrids.

Season 9, Episode 1: "Intergalactic Zoo"

Top Looks (Judges):
1. Jordan & Ben
2. Sidney & Evan

Our Top Looks:

  1. Ricky & Jasmine

Deemed merely safe by the judges, Ricky & Jasmine's rather terrifying insect creature expertly incorporated the two models. If the sexy insectoids of last season's "Queen Bees" challenge (which also utilized two models) had a monster to battle, this would be it.

  2. Jordan & Ben

The judges crowned this dinosaur-like creature as the episode's winning creation. We dig it, though the use of the maroon fabric seems more like a way to cover any unfinished business than a congruous creative choice. Still, stellar work, especially for such a difficult challenge.

  3. Omar & Kevon

The judges put this clam creature in Bottom Looks, but we like it. It's the most grotesquely monstrous of all the makeups, and we love the Little Shop of Horrors-ish mouth gag. Sure, it's not quite finished, but it definitely looks like something from another world … and a rather gross one, at that.
