For the first time, we see completely eye-to-eye with the judges as the artists created mashup characters based on genre literature.

Well, here's a first: We actually completely agree with the judges on this one.

How to Watch

Catch up on Face Off on Peacock or the SYFY App.

The fourth episode of Season 9 of Face Off had the artists taking on their first solo challenge (a Focus Challenge, at that) as they created characters inspired by made-up mashup literature. The results were wildly uneven, with some artists showing off their best work to date and others struggling to see their vision through without a partner ... though, for the first time, there was a congruous harmony between the judges' Top Looks and ours.

Season 9, Episode 4: "Frightful Fiction"

Top Looks (Judges):
Scott (Winner)
Stevie
Jasmine

Our Top Looks:

  1. Scott (Don Quixote: Monster of La Mancha)

Scott's inspired take on Don Quixote's sidekick Sancho Panza reimagined the faithful squire as Frankenstein's creature. Nuanced, clean and well-done.

  2. Stevie (Don Quixote: Monster of La Mancha)

Don Quixote brought the magic this week as Stevie was surprised to find her work in Top Looks after spending most of the creative process second-guessing her skills, particularly when it comes to painting. A subtle and immensively satisfying reptilian makeup.

  3. Jasmine (Sherlock Holmes: Bloodsucker)

We loved Jasmine's sensuous female vampire, particularly the Poison Ivy-esque hair and powerful face sculpture. There's nothing elementary about this lady of the night!

Next Week: Prepare for the coming of The Gatekeepers!
