Emme became a ward of Flynn and Abby when her father -- Flynn's partner -- was killed. Being a teenager and having your life turned upside down is hard enough, but Emme is also autistic (specifically, she has Asperger Syndrome). Often alone in a world that doesn't understand her, Emme's frustrations and complicated emotions often lead to self-destructive behavior.
