So, Alice is a Niffin, and trapped in the tattoo on Quentin’s back that once housed his cacodemon. While Quentin is trying to finish the spell that Alice started to turn a Niffin back into a human, Niffin Alice seems hell bent on either making Quentin go nuts or setting her free. Whichever comes first.

Kady brings Julia to a couple of witches who say they can exorcise the trickster god fetus growing in Julia for the price of...a million dollars in gold. In order to get that kind of money, they’re going to rob a bank. Go get popcorn. It's on.

Back in Fillory, things are grim. With the money it is taking to try and clean up the wellspring AND prepare for the upcoming war with Loria, Eliot and Margo discover that Fillory is broke AF.

While Kady and Julia are scoping out a bank that is covered in magical wards, they're jumped by an invisible smoke monster but saved by the Haxenpaxen they stole. The Haxenpaxen kills the monster but dies in the process. And Julia and Kady head to...

Brakebills! Dean Fogg previously expelled Kady and is not keen on granting asylum (especially to hedge witches). But changes his mind when he discovers Julia's scary demon fetus is entwining itself with her soul. Fine, they can stay.

Julia and Quentin are reunited. He feels for Julia and promises to do anything he can to help her in her present situation. So Julia asks him to help rob a bank, which definitely piques Niffin Alice’s interest.

Speaking of reunions… After she disappeared on him when the two were about to run away from Brakebills South, Penny and Kady see each other at the Brakebills library. And immediately do it in the stacks. Afterwards, Kady asks Penny if he’d like to get in on the bank heist.

With the addition of Margo and Eliot (well, his golem) who need the gold to fill the royal coffers, the whole gang is back together! And about to rob a bank!!! This is gonna be good.

As the gang goes over the plan (knock down wards, get Penny to float and travel, etc.) they're ambushed by yet ANOTHER invisible smoke monster! While running to safety, Kady stays behind to kill it cause A. She’s a badass and B. She needs the monster's… spoon?

Yup, spoon. Turns out, one of the witches who's to help them exorcise the demon baby sent these monsters, made of old things like spoons, after Julia! She thought it would be better to kill the baby and mom together cause the baby is too evil to be born. The other witch points out this is stupid cause if dead, Julia won’t pay. Unfortunately, the monsters can’t be called off so they gotta get that gold STAT.

Kady finds Julia working on an old spell that Richard previously used to rewind time a little bit. Kady has to tell Julia that she can’t come to the bank heist since those invisible monsters want her dead, BUT she did enchant those “Best Friends” necklaces (Awww) so that Julia can still see everything that happens.

All right! It’s the day of the great magicians caper. The gang has this whole thing planned out so it’s time to get to business.

Step 1: get everyone out of the bank. To do that, the gang went with attack of the killer bees.

Step 2: Shut down wards. Using a spell that temporarily cloned the fingers of two bank managers onto their own hands, Kady and Quentin are able to fool the fingerprint scanners, successfully shutting down all the traditional alarms and the magical ones.

Step 3: With the wards down, Penny is free to travel into the vault, fill up with gold, and travel out. AS LONG AS HE DOESN’T TOUCH THE FLOOR THAT’S COVERED IN ANTI-TRAVELER SPELLS. Easy, right?

Not so easy. Apparently someone messed up the buoyancy math on the gravity belt and because the bag of gold was so heavy Penny dipped down and touched the floor, making him unable to travel out. The gang now has to get him out of the vault before his air runs out.

Turns out Niffin Alice can save Penny’s life, but she'll only do it if Quentin allows her to take over his body for half an hour a day. And just like that, a spell that would have taken the gang days, Niffin Alice does in a matter of seconds.

Except now, they have to deal with a bank hired battle magician! Julia swoops in with her spell to rewind time for 15 seconds at a stretch, but she only has juice to do it four times! On the fourth go, Eliot saves Q by jumping in front of a blast from the battle magician, BUT it’s just his golem that is harmed! Except for the fact that back in Fillory, Eliot breaks out into a VERY scary seizure…

If that wasn’t bad enough, the invisible monster is BACK! Luckily, Kady and the rest of the gang (except poor Eliot) show up just in time to kill it, but could it be too late for Julia?!

Julia is okay AND good news, they exorcised Julia’s demon baby! But, when Julia wakes up Kady tells her that there was “a complication.” Well that can't be good.
