War! What is it good for? Wiping out the Hullen enemy before it can wipe out the human race — that’s what. And right now, Johnny and D’avin are going over attack simulations…and they’re not looking so good. D’avin, who’s the new de facto general of the army Dutch abandoned, comes up with a general plan: to get a little scrappy.
Meanwhile, Dutch is single-mindedly pursuing her connection to Aneela, past, present, and future. The cube prison / mobile home they picked up on Arkyn might provide some answers. Then again, so might Zeph's biochemical detective work.
Johnny discovers a frequency that is able to disrupt the normal communications of the Hullen fleet. If he can amplify the sound, they can use it as a weapon in the assault. But to build that amp, they're going to need a weapon that's currently in the possession of a nasty, killer Westerly clan called the Mole Miners.
Johnny and D'avin need some intel on the Mole Miners clan, and Borna has it. She gives them codes to the Mole Miners transport convoy that will help them unlock the safe with the amplifier. She also tells them that they're a couple of idiots for thinking they can rip off the Mole Miners.
Finding torture has diminishing marignal returns, Aneela dips her and Gander's hands into the plasma, and dips into his memories. She knows where Delle Seyah is. But now so does The Lady. Who is The Lady? She's a being that lives in the plasma, and runs the ship. She wants to get out and run the universe, but she can't. Or can she?
The Lady has reversed the course of the ship — she's a bit of a trickster — and to get it back in the right direction Aneela must bleed out some of her own plasma. The things our evil overlord is willing to do for hate!
D'avin, wearing the retina, passes Mole Miner security and is tasked with helming a Humvee loaded up with valuable crystals and explosive material. Meanwhile, Johnny provides eyes in the sky ready to initiate an attack once the proper diversion has been initiated. And Dutch is on the ground, ready to swipe the sonic weapon as soon as Johnny gives her the go-ahead.
Delle Seyah is also supes pregnant. Looks like Gander cribbed Aneela's research and applied it to Delle Seyah's body. It's OK now, though, because Delle Seyah and Aneela are going to torture Gander some more.
Dutch is able to recruit Borna and some more of her men to launch a rescue mission to get back D'avin and, yes, Jelko. Jelko's really in love with his Borna, and he was looking to steal the crystals as an anniversary present. It was sweet in a very disruptive way.
When Dutch returns, Zeph has some strange news to give her. Basically, Dutch's and Aneela's DNA are the exact same, just in mirror-image. Zeph can't figure out why, but Dutch knows it's because she was born from Aneela's plasma. Here's the thing: if Dutch kills Aneela, all the Hullen lemmings will fall too. But if Aneela dies, Dutch dies, too!
