Tom Holland Wants MCU’s Peter Parker To Mentor Next Spider Hero

Tom Holland isn’t hanging up Peter Parker’s suit just yet, the actor is already thinking about who will inherit the web-slinging mantle after Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Whoever the Marvel Cinematic Universe taps next to "do whatever a spider can," the actor hopes he can help guide their journey like Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man did for him.

"Whether that is Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter," Holland told Empire for the magazine's July 2026 issue. "Whatever that looks like, I don't know. But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset."

Shang-Chi and Wonder Man director Destin Daniel Cretton helmed Brand New Day, which is all about how Peter has adapted to total anonymity after the events of No Way Home. With no personal connections left, Peter is now a full-time crimefighter who crosses paths with Punisher (Jon Bernthal) and Scorpion (Michael Mando).

"He is dictating his entire existence to his job," Cretton told Empire. "That's the core theme that I find incredibly relatable. I think most people at certain points in our lives have gone through loss. At least for me, and I think for many people, the result can be: 'Screw it. I'm just going to work. I'm going to do nothing else but work.' That's obviously not the most healthy state."

"[I know] the feeling of isolation and the feeling that you're the only person in the world going through something,” he continued. "Particularly in the past few years, I lost my grandparents who I was very close to, and my dad. And there's a trick of the brain that spins the story that all hope is lost and nobody can understand."

The fourth Spider-Man film from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures co-stars Zendaya (MJ), Jacob Batalon (Ned), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Tramell Tillman, Sadie Sink and Keith David in undisclosed roles.

Tickets are not yet on sale. 

In addition to Brand New Day, Holland also appears in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey as Telemachus, son of Matt Damon's Odysseus. The blockbuster adaptation of the Ancient Greek epic hits the big screen Friday, July 17.
