In 1967, legendary Hollywood photographer Dennis Stock visited the set of Planet of the Apes outside Los Angeles. The results of his visit are a series of fascinating black-and-white photos that reveal the life of an ape when the cameras aren't rolling.

Some of Stock's behind-the-scenes shots from the Apes set are exactly the kind of shots you'd expect: cast members getting their prosthetics applied, crew members standing around lighting equipment, apes in full costume astride horses. But what's really interesting are the other photos Stock took.

Take a look below and you'll find the film's ape cast, in full makeup and costume, wandering around the California streets, sitting at bus stops and just hanging out. It's an amusing juxtaposition, though it was the '60s, so they might have fit right in.
