Welcome to another edition of our FANGRRLS Romance series, where your unabashed romance readers (that's us) round up some of the reads we're looking forward to this month, as well as the slightly older titles that have been stealing our attention lately.

We've put together 12 sci-fi and fantasy romance recs to read that are rolling out through the month of October, but this is by no means exhaustive. Let us know what you're planning on reading in the comments below.

And a friendly reminder, as usual: We're always on the lookout for authors with SFF romance titles to spotlight, so if you're a writer with a book coming out, let us know! You can also chat us up anytime on Twitter, either individually or via SYFY FANGRRLS using the hashtag #FangrrlsRomance. And don't forget to check out last month's releases in case you're looking to add a little backfill to your to-read list. Happy reading!

A Treason of Truths

A Treason of Truths - Ada Harper (October 1)

The highly-anticipated, action-packed sequel to Harper's A Conspiracy of Whispers follows the blossoming romance between Empress Sabine Corvus and Lyre, her head spymaster. With lots of political intrigue, intense adventure, strong women and the angst that arises when your greatest love is also your greatest weakness, A Treason of Truths looks to promise much of the same of what we loved about Harper's first book, and we can't wait to dive into Sabine and Lyre's romance this month.

Darak: Dakonian Alien Mail Order Brides - Cara Bristol (October 5)

With the first book in her new series, Bristol poses an interesting dilemma: what do you do when you need a plus one to your little sister's wedding, but all of your male Earth options are unworthy? Try the Intergalactic Dating Agency, of course. Pastry chef and Earth girl Lexi eventually resorts to looking towards the whole universe for a potential wedding date, but she thought she'd wind up with someone purple and tentacled — not a horned alien hottie named Darak. Meanwhile, Darak's enlisted the services of IDA for a potential mate, and Lexi might just be the woman he's been searching for.

Lionheart - Thea Harrison (October 8)

Harrison wraps up her Moonshadow trilogy with an epic story that blends romance with high stakes. Brilliant trauma surgeon and magic user Dr. Kathryn Shaw is renowned in her field for a variety of reasons — but she never thought she'd be asked to help heal Oberon, Sidhe King of the Dark Court. Thanks to an enchantment that threatens to kill him while also threading icy tendrils around his emotions, Oberon may be out of options. As he reluctantly accepts Kathryn's healing touch, it may be her unexpected hold on his heart that surprises both of them — even as they're forced to deal with the looming threat of the enemy.

Healer's Need

Healer's Need - Rhenna Morgan (October 22)

Morgan's latest installment in her Ancient Ink world revolves around a clan of shifters known as Volcan whose stories are as engaging as they are diverse. Coyote shifter Tate has been patiently waiting for his fated mate Elise, who is not only expected to fulfill her destiny as clan healer but also has yet to embrace her abilities and, by extension, her animal companion. The only question that remains is when she'll be able to concede control — especially when a new enemy begins to stalk the clan with Elise and her magic in its sights.

Hiding the Moon

Hiding the Moon - Amy Lane (October 23)

Truthfully, the only thing you need to know about Lane's newest Fish Out of Water book is that it opens with the amazing tagline of "Can a hitman and a psychic negotiate a relationship while all hell breaks loose?" Black ops agent Lee Burton has made a career out of doing what his superiors tell him, but when he discovers that his next, rather unorthodox target is psychic Ernie Caulfield, he realizes that the organization he works for may be more corrupt than even he knew. Will he risk it all for an unexpected love connection?

Shadow and Ice

Shadow and Ice - Gena Showalter (October 23)

New York Times-bestselling author Showalter introduces her new God of War series with Shadow and Ice, an enemies-to-lovers romance that takes place in a world where the All Wars have been going on for ages between the gods, those in pursuit of new realms. Knox of Iviland has spent his lifetime fighting as a warrior, and if he succeeds in his latest endeavor to secure Earth, he'll be released from his slave bands once and for all. He's not anticipating the arrival of street-tough human Vale, who literally stumbles into a war she's not expecting. Though they're fated to be enemies, Knox immediately wants to keep her safe — but will he have to give up his own freedom in the process?

Fury's Mantle

Fury's Mantle - Yasmine Galenorn (October 29)

Theosian (a term for a minor goddess) Kaeleen Donovan, also known as Fury, has spent much of her life juggling her duties between the human world and the supernatural, running a cleaning company and reading fortunes by day and living in service to the goddess Hecate by night. But when you've been assigned from birth to hunt down ghosts, zombies, and lycanthropes, sometimes all doesn't go according to plan. When the latest threat begins to close in on her new home, all Fury has worked so hard to rebuild might be destroyed unless she can put a stop to it.

Worlds Collide

Worlds Collide - Tracy St. John (October 29)

St. John's gold-skinned alien hotties from Risnar return in Worlds Collide, as the reach between two planets grows smaller and one warrior strives to cut off Earth's access to Risnar forever. When the warrior Jape leaps through the portal between his world and Earth, he winds up encountering a human — engineer Velia Farrah, to be specific — and the unexpected distraction of their mutual attraction might just serve to change his mind about his original plans.

Shades of Wicked

Shades of Wicked - Jeaniene Frost (October 30)

Frost's new Night Rebel series, set in the world of her Night Huntress books, finally spins the story for ruthless bad boy Ian. As a Rule Breaker Master vampire, Ian is in every way the wicked, unrepentant influence — and he's got the laundry list of enemies to show for it, including the demon Dagon, who has designs on containing his soul. In order to survive, Ian's forced to join forces with a Law Guardian named Veritas, who has her own brewing feud with Dagon to take care of. While Ian and Veritas realize they might have a common goal in besting Dagon once and for all, they don't anticipate their intense connection — or the deep secrets their team-up will unearth.

Archangel's Prophecy

Archangel's Prophecy - Nalini Singh (October 30)

New York Times-bestselling author Singh returns to her popular Guild Hunter series and her beloved characters of the world. Elena is the first mortal to have been made an immortal, at least in the angelic timeline — but something's starting to go wrong. She's regressing, reverting back to human, and her wings are starting to fail. Alongside her Archangel love interest Raphael, Elena must determine what's happening to her before it's too late while evil threats begin to take shape not just in New York but across the entire globe.

Wolf Rising

Wolf Rising - Paige Tyler (October 30)

Tyler's Dallas SWAT guys aren't just special ops; they're also wolf shifters, even more qualified to work in their designated field. Wolf Rising is about SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) Officer Jayden Brooks, who's good at his job but less so in the realm of romance. He's convinced he'll never find his mate — until he saves high school teacher Selena from a dangerous hostage situation. Selena, on the other hand, is more than what she seems, and when the traumatic event she experienced activates her latent werewolf gene, she'll have to be willing to trust Brooks enough to help her through the change before it's too late.

Marked by Fire

Marked by Fire - Kimber White (October 30)

Dragon shifter Finn Brandhart is the last of a breed that may be on the verge of extinction. While the rest of the shifter realm is convinced that his kind doesn't exist, he's frantically racing against time to find a mate who can help contain his inner dragon. Gemma, a witch descended from a long line of fire mages, is having similar troubles with her abilities; they're on the fritz, and she doesn't know why. Could they both be the answer to each other's problems?

An Easy Death

Kayleigh's Miscellaneous Recs

Charlaine Harris, the legend behind True Blood’s Sookie Stackhouse, has a new series in the works. An Easy Death introduces the world to Gunnie Rose, a gunslinger mercenary who takes on a job involving a pair of wizards and a journey across an unfamiliar America. The creator of True Blood goes all Dark Tower on us and we can't wait!

Of course, we cannot end a wrap-up of October releases without shouting out another vampire legend, Anne Rice. The 13th book in the Vampire Chronicles, Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat, will be released just in time for Halloween and promises more adventures with the Brat Prince of the undead.

Carly's Miscellaneous Recs

We recommended this book back in August as part of that month's recs, but we'd be remiss if we didn't bring Somaiya Daud's Mirage to your attention again. It's a new, creative twist on the classic tale of the Prince and the Pauper, filled with the kind of rich worldbuilding we love for in genre YA — not to mention a little bit of romance and complex female characters, to boot. If you haven't read this one yet, get thee to the bookstore immediately.

In more adult picks, this month we're also diving into the epic fantasy romance Weathermages of Mystral series by author C.L. Wilson, starting with The Winter King. When King Wynter Atrialan exacts his vengeance on the king of Summerlea by taking one of his daughters, Khamsin, to wed, he's certainly not predicting that the storms of their passion will rival those of the war that still rages on around them. Wilson is a fantasy romance author who's highly praised, so we can't wait to dive into this title.
