The year 2014 brought one hell of a selection in terms of science fiction, including acclaimed books from old favorites like William Gibson and John Scalzi as well as breakout rocket rides to stardom by Emily St. John Mandel thanks to her beautiful, post-apocalyptic novel Station Eleven. This year offers a literary slathering of new books by some of the genre's favorite writers, including Neal Stephenson, China Mieville, Dan Simmons, Mark Z. Danielewski and Neil Gaiman, as well as hotly buzzed-about books from Laura van den Berg and Sandra Newman. Also, the originality this year is on overload, as we have a couple who stop time with their orgasms, a Henry James/Sherlock Holmes buddy mystery and the strangest told story about a girl in Los Angeles who adopts a cat (Just you wait ...).

Here's our list of the books that should be on your must-read list for this summer season. What'd we miss? Let us know in the comments!
