18 awesome sci-fi and fantasy trailers from the 1st day of E3

The 2012 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) officially kicked off yesterday, and if you couldn't make it, you missed a ton of awesome videogame trailers. But don't worry—we've got you covered.

With everything from zombie thrillers to the latest Halo on the way, we've pulled together some of the cooler clips of gameplay footage to pop up on day one.

Halo 4: Nov. 6, 2012.

The latest installment in Microsoft's monster hit Halo series looks to be one of the best yet, with Master Chief's return to face an ancient evil that threatens the entire universe. If you like it, there'll be more to come, as Halo 4 marks the beginning of a new trilogy.

ZombiU: Release date TBA

A first-person shooter for Nintendo's new Wii U console. The story follows a zombie outbreak in London.

Gears of War Judgment: Release date TBA

The latest installment in the extremely popular Gears of War series continues the space war series. Judgment will be the fourth installment in the series.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow-Mirror of Fate: Release date TBA

A follow-up to Castlevania Lords of Shadow, Mirror of Fate continues the popular reboot of the classic vampire series Castlevania. Not surprisingly, we'll see the return of Dracula looking to cause some trouble.

Assassin's Creed 3: Release date Oct. 30, 2012

The final installment in a planned trilogy, Assassin's Creed 3 will focus on a quest to prevent the end of the world, all tying in to the doomsday predictions for late 2012. Here's hoping the Assassin is up to the task.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron: Release date Aug. 28, 2012

The Autobots face off with the Decepticons once again, in the latest installment of the Transformers videogame series. The third-person shooter could be the battle-hardened Transformers game we've been waiting for.

Marvel Pinball 3D: Release date this summer

All your favorite Marvel heroes are here (at least in pinball table form) in the new, 3D pinball game for the Nintendo 3DS.

Batman Arkham City Armored Edition: Release date 4Q 2012

Nintendo's new Wii U system won't be left out of the Dark Knight action, with an adaptation of the popular Batman Arkham Asylum coming to the new console. The controls and tools have been tweaked to take advantage of the Wii U's unique controls.

God of War Ascension: Release date March 12, 2013

The new God of War game will focus on Kratos before he became the Ghost of Sparta, and will feature some pretty massive multiplayer options that are supposed to be epic.

Avengers Battle For Earth: Release date Fall 2012

The trailer for this one looks fantastic, and will have Earth's Mightiest Heroes coming together to battle an invading Skrull force. The story is loosely based on the Secret Invasion storyline from the comics.

Star Wars 1313: Release date TBA

This new, mysterious Star Wars project has been rumored for a while. The gritty new take on Star Wars will follow a bounty hunter through Coruscant's subterranean level 1313 underworld, chasing leads for a massive conspiracy.

Beyond: Two Souls: Release date early 2013

Developed by the folks who made the critical hit Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls is a high-concept, metaphysical game about a girl with supernatural powers.

Dead Space 3: Release date Feb. 2013

The latest entry in the extremely popular survival horror Dead Space series is somewhat of a mystery, though the teaser trailer looks really, really interesting.

Resident Evil 6: Release date Oct. 2, 2012

You can't stop the granddaddy of them all, and the latest Resident Evil looks to tie a healthy dose of political intrigue into the tried-and-true zombie killing formula.

Crysis 3: Release date TBA 2013

The post-apocalyptic Crysis series will continue next year, when the Prophet makes his way back to New York and takes on the corrupt Cell Corporation.

Watch Dogs: Release date TBA

This open world action game focuses on surveillance tech and a hacker caught in the middle. The trailer has generated quite a bit of buzz.

Aliens: Colonial Marines: Release date Feb. 12, 2013

If Prometheus doesn't scratchy your Alien itch, then Colonial Marines might be just what you're looking for when it eventually hits shelves. Timeline-wise, the game will focus on the Aliens era.

Amazing Spider-Man: Release date June 26, 2012

As is the case with most potential blockbusters these days, the obligatory videogame tie-in for the new Spider-Man reboot is on the way. The trailer look awesome, and here's hoping the gameplay matches up with the visuals.
