We’ve had a feeling Gareth Edwards’ new Godzilla film would feature more creatures than just the namesake behemoth, and now we have our first details on what to expect.
With the film set to open May 16, the studio debuted some footage at the recent SXSW festival, and the first reviews are rolling out with some choice details. It turns out Godzilla is definitely not the only creature in the film, and the other baddie apparently bears a striking resemblance to the beast that shredded New York in 2008’s found-footage monster flick Cloverfield.
A handful of reports about the clip have shown up online, and we’ve yanked out some description excerpts below to give you a feel for what to expect. Nerdist says the mysterious beast is a “Kaiju that stylistically looks like a combination of a mosquito and the Cloverfield monster,” while Shock Till You Drop calls it a “multi-limbed creature with what look like wings on its back.”
We don’t know exactly how this new monster fits into the narrative, but it sounds like it could be a new antagonist for Godzilla, at least judging by the context clues. The folks at Topless Robot have also pointed out that those descriptions seem to match an unnamed monster that showed up in the Godzilla toy line. So check out a shot below for an inkling of what this monster looks like (at least in tiny, plastic form).
Are you glad to hear the film will feature more than one monster? How do you think it’ll work?
