We lurrrve romcoms. But a romcom with sci-fi elements like time travel sprinkled in it? Sounds like a winner to us. Especially if one of its stars is the great Bill Nighy. Oh, and it has Rachel McAdams in it, too.
About Time is the new brainchild from Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and Funeral, Notting Hill and the wonderful, infinitely sad Doctor Who episode “Vincent and the Doctor,” in which Nighy had a cameo).
It stars Domhnall Gleeson (Black Mirror) as Tim, an unlucky-in-love guy who is revealed to have the ability to travel through time (but not space) by his dad, the always-awesome Bill Nighy, when he turns 21 (a secret family trait).
So what’s a guy to do?
Well, first dad makes a point that he can’t change history: "You can't kill Hitler or shag Helen of Troy, unfortunately." Hi-la-ri-ous.
So instead Tim uses said special ability to get himself a hot girlfriend in the shape of McAdams’ Mary—in her second outing in a romantic time-travel movie (the first was The Time Traveler’s Wife, based on Audrey Niffenegger's book)— and to get everything in their relationship absolutely right. (We could always use that kind of power, right?)
Have a look:
Written and directed by Curtis, About Time also stars Lindsay Duncan, Tom Hollander, Margot Robbie and Vanessa Kirby. It’ll be released in the U.K. on Sept. 6.
