It’s been more than a year since we first heard the Wachowskis were teaming up with J. Michael Straczynski for a new sci-fi series dubbed Sense8. Now we finally have some details on the intriguing Netflix project.

Despite the fact that we’ve known about all this since mid-to-late 2012, details have been surprisingly scarce. Luckily for us, the folks at TV Line have finally scrounged up some revealing new info.

The new 10-episode series will focus on eight people in eight different countries, all connected by a violent vision they share. Each episode will follow a different character, with threads tied into every episode regarding a mysterious “entity” working to bring them all together, while another force works to kill them all. The high-concept show will shoot all over the globe, including Mumbai, Seoul, Nairobi, Berlin, the U.K., Mexico City, Chicago and San Francisco.

There’s even a breakdown of all the characters, which are currently uncast, since the show doesn’t actually start shooting until June. Characters include: an Icelandic party girl, a German safecracker, a closeted Mexican telenovela hunk, an African bus driver, a Korean businesswoman and a transgender American blogger. As for those mysteriously good and bad entities? The “good” one will be Jonas, an “apparently magic African-American” who appears to all the characters, while the evil force is dubbed Mr. Whispers.

Admittedly, it all sounds pretty weird — but the Wachowskis have made a career of taking strange concepts and turning them into awesome films. It’ll be interesting to see if that magic can translate to the small screen, and Babylon 5 alum J. Michael Straczynski is a nice trump card to have in the deck.

What do you think? Will Netflix’s first foray into straight-up sci-fi be a worthwhile effort?
