Filming for that CW Vampire Diaries spinoff titled The Originals began yesterday, and we have the first behind-the-scenes pics direct from the set in Atlanta.
The pilot episode for The Originals is actually episode 420 of The Vampire Diaries. It’s now being filmed and will actually serve as the backdoor pilot for this vamp spinoff. The episode is set to air on April 25.
Simply titled "The Originals," the episode is being directed by director Chris Grismer, who is also The Vampire Diaries’ supervising producer. Grismer also directed two fan-favorite episodes titled “The End of the Affair” and “Before Sunset.”
It was Grismer himself who shared this behind-the-scenes pic of The Originals cast and wrote "The beautiful cast of #theoriginals wait for the next shot."
In the pic, you can see Phoebe Tonkin, who plays werewolf Hayley, Daniel Gillies, who plays Original vamp Elijah, and Joseph Morgan, who plays his brother and Hybrid Original Klaus. (You know, the werewolf/vampire one that oozes charm every time he's on screen? Yep, that one.)
Zap2It reports that:
The episode will see Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah travel to New Orleans, where Hayley has settled after betraying pretty much everyone in Mystic Falls. There, Klaus is reunited with his old vampire protege, Marcel. They'll also come across witches Sophie and Davina, who are on the cusp of a supernatural revolution, and psych student Camille, who seeks answers about innate evil after a horrific family tragedy.
Looking forward to seeing the back-door pilot episode in order to make up your minds about the potential of The Originals as a series?
Daniel Gillies as Elijah.
