The Seventh Son is a fantasy film inspired by the novel The Spook's Apprentice. It's the first entry in Joseph Delaney's series The Wardstone Chronicles. As you might suspect, the story follows the seventh son of the seventh son. In the film, the character of Tom Ward is played by Ben Barnes, who's much older than the character in the book. But then again, the film's not a direct adaptation.
Jeff Bridges plays a Spook called John Gregory. All his life he's been fighting against the Dark, and at one point imprisoned the deadly witch Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore). Years after her capture, she escapes and is hell-bent on making John pay. With his back against the wall, John has to quickly train a new apprentice. Cue Tom Ward, who becomes mankind's last hope against evil.
The Seventh Son also stars Game of Thrones' Kit Harington as Billy Bradley, Djimon Hounsou as Radu and Jason Scott Lee as Urag.
