1st trailer for indie horror film Afflicted makes us believe in found footage again

To call the “found footage” genre played out would be an understatement, but a buzzy new indie horror flick is showing there might still be a little life left in the ol’ fad.

Dubbed Afflicted, the new horror flick generated some recent film-festival attention by looking like a nice combination of Blair Witch and Chronicle. It sounds a bit strange, but really, it seems to work. They also mix in some new takes on the old tropes, such as jumping out of a building and barreling head first into traffic.

Check out the official synopsis for some context:

"This terrifying horror thriller follows two best friends who set out on the trip of a lifetime around the world. Their journey, documented every step of the way, soon takes a dark and unexpected turn after an encounter with a beautiful woman in Paris leaves one of them mysteriously afflicted. Winner: Best Picture (Horror), Best Screenplay (Horror), Best Director (Horror) at Fantastic Fest, and recipient of awards of recognition from the Toronto International Film Festival and the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival. AFFLICTED is one of the most suspenseful and original action horror debuts in a generation."

It’s a simple setup, sure, but it seems to work. The film is set to hit on-demand video services April 1, so check out the trailer below and let us know what you think:
