"Whatever happens tonight, remember, you brought it on yourself." The Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol promo trailer is out, and it's an absolute Christmassy gem that Charles Dickens would be proud of. It includes, among other things, Matt Smith's Doctor stepping out of a chimney covered in soot. We are so in.

Producer Steven Moffat has said of the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special that "Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. And ... oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything!"

With statements that "time can be rewritten" and "people can't" (and a log line that claims that Christmas time can be rewritten—don't you just love it?) we wonder what the Moff will have in store for us.

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled during the trailer, because Rory (Arthur Darvill) is in his Roman Auton garb 30 seconds in. Which is rather mysterious, don't you think?
Enjoy the trailer!

Guest-starring Sir Michael Gambon (Harry Potter's Dumbledore) as the Scrooge-like ''Older Kazran'', Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol will air in both the U.K. and the U.S. on Christmas Day.
