With her Twilight series already breaking bookstore and box-office records, some new pics from author Stephenie Meyer's latest film project The Host have made it into the wild.
The shots, courtesy of People Magazine, show stars Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons as characters Melanie Stryder and Jared Howe in the sci-fi love story based on Meyer's hit book of the same name.
Though a romance angle remains intact, The Host is a definite stretch from Meyer's previous vampire love tale. The story follows lost soul The Wanderer, which is fused with human Melanie Stryder in an attempt to locate the last humans on Earth. It's a neat concept and could fit in nicely with other upcoming young adult sci-fi films such as The Hunger Games and Ender's Game.
"It's kind of an alien love story," director Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, In Time) tells People Magazine.
But, just so we're clear: Though there will be some lovin', there will not be any "Team Jacob" or "Team Edward" angst to be found. FYI.
The promo shots aren't too revealing, though they do give a sense of the cinematic style Niccol is bringing to the project. If it's half as cool as Gattaca, count me in.
The Host is slated to open March 29, 2013.
