Conventions. They’re all fun and cheer until you see your own blood. Which is exactly what happened to cosplayers Jamie Temple-Thompson Amador and Kelly McDaniel at DragonCon this past weekend.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, both Amador and McDaniel were injured when chairs and bottles were thrown from a balcony onto the first floor of the Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta. McDaniel suffered a gash to her skull that required two staples. Amador’s injuries were not disclosed, but from a photo at Koblist, she appears to have sustained a hand injury.

You can find McDaniel’s post on the incident here. Warning: Graphic content.

McDaniel, who was dressed as Female Loki, has said she believes her headgear saved her life.

There is apparently no motive for the incident, nor has anyone been arrested. However, the Atlanta police department is offering a reward for anyone who comes forward with information regarding the tossed chairs.

If you know something, say something, people. Don't let conventions become the kind of places we avoid.
