This December, Marvel Comics is preparing to bring us the ultimate Avengers comic book box set, and if the price tag isn't too steep for you, it could also be the ultimate holiday gift for Avengers fans.

Marvel's December 2018 solicitations arrived this week, and included among them is "Earth's Mightiest Box Set," a whopper of a collection that will compile various hardcover omnibuses of Avengers stories from throughout the team's five-plus decades of stories into one massive slipcase. All told, the collection will feature more than 2,600 pages of comics, including a collectible poster and featuring tales by everyone from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to current Avengers writer Jason Aaron. The price? A cool $500, but for the right fan it's probably worth it.

Avengers Earth's Mightiest Box Set

So, what do you get if you're willing to hand over $500 bucks. Well, it starts with the premiere hardcover collection Avengers by Lee and Kirby, so you can see how it all began, and then continues through The Kree/Skrull WarAvengers/Defenders WarCelestial MadonnaThe Korvac SagaUnder Siege, The Gatherers SagaThe Morgan ConquestAvengers ForeverAvengers Disassembled, and the most recent Avengers arc, The Final Host. All that, plus a poster, and if you're really ambitious you can start dragging this thing around to conventions to have as many of the creators involved in those comics as possible start to sign the thing.

Earth's Mightiest Box Set is already available for pre-order on Amazon, where its release date is listed as April 16, 2019, so sadly this giant thing might not be immediately available as a Christmas present. Just letting someone know it's coming their way next spring might turn out to be present enough, though, if you've got the cash.

What do you think? Is the box set worth it?
