28 awesome sci-fi and fantasy videogame trailers from E3 2013

Get ready to free up some serious gaming time.

This week we've seen new consoles, new games and new ideas unfold at the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), otherwise known as videogame Christmas. Not only did we see new consoles announced from both Sony and Microsoft (yeah, start saving up now), we also saw a whole host of new fantasy and sci-fi games preparing to hit stores, from new installments of beloved franchises to brand-new ideas.

So get ready for mechs, zombies, aliens, more zombies, pirates and even Mario. Here are 28 E3 trailers from games you can look forward to.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The latest installment in this legendary franchise -- including a prologue game, Ground Zeroes -- will hit multiple platforms sometime in 2014.


There's no release date yet for this sci-fi epic, but considering it's coming from Bungie, the studio that brought us Halo, you might want to go ahead and add it to your list.


This futuristic warfare game is the debut project from Respawn Entertainment, the new studio of Infinity Ward co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella. That's right. The guys who brought you Call of Duty are back, and this time they're bringing mechs.

Halo 5

This game hasn't officially been titled Halo 5 yet. Right now Microsoft's just referring to it as Halo. But it is a new story, on a new engine, and it's your first chance to play Halo on the forthcoming XBox One console.

Final Fantasy XV

No release date yet, but the Final Fantasy franchise is still going strong, and this game will carry it into the XBox One and Playstation 4 consoles.

Killzone: Shadow Fall

The latest entry in the Killzone franchise will arrive Dec. 30 for the Playstation 4.

Sunset Overdrive

Spyro the Dragon developer Insomniac Games is responsible for this insane-looking open-world shooter. No release date yet, though.

Star Wars: Battlefront

We don't even know what platforms this game will be on yet, or when we can buy it, but behold the first Star Wars game of the Disney era.

The Order: 1886

If you love steampunk, you'll definitely want check this game set in 19th-century London. No release date yet, but it's set to hit the PS4.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

The now-classic franchise you love, now with more pirates! Assassin's Creed IV drops October 29.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2

The legendary vampiric franchise is back with this sequel to Lords of Shadow. Expect it later this year.

Batman: Arkham Origins

The wildly popular Arkham series of Batman games returns with its third installment, and this time it's a prequel. Look for it Oct. 25.

Super Mario 3D World

You know you still love Mario, so pick up this game for the Wii U this December.

Kingdom Hearts III

The Kingdom Hearts franchise returns for the PS4 and XBox One. No release date yet.

Mirror's Edge 2

The futuristic action franchise is back with a sequel after five years. No release date yet, but it'll arrive for XBox One and PS4.

Beyond: Two Souls

This 15-year saga of a girl with a connection to a powerful supernatural entity features a voice cast including Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe. It arrives Oct. 8. 

Dark Souls 2

The sequel to this acclaimed action RPG drops in March 2014.

Dead Rising 3

Oh yeah, more zombies. Dead Rising returns this holiday season.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

The third installment in the Dragon Age series arrives fall 2014.

Wolftenstein: The New Order

Set in a version of the 1960s where the Nazis won World War II, the latest installment in the Wolfenstein franchise (featuring lots of killer robots, it seems) will arrive later this year.

The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls series goes MMO. The game is scheduled to arrive in the spring of 2014.

Dying Light

Look for this new free-running zombie game from the makers of Dead Island sometime next year.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes

This fall, more than 100 Marvel superheroes go LEGO.


The third main game in the Infamous franchise will arrive for the PS4 in early 2014.

Mad Max

It's a good time to be a Mad Max fan. Not only are we finally getting a new movie, but we're also getting this game sometime next year.

Lost Planet 3

The latest installment in the Lost Planet franchise will take place before the first game and will hit stories this August.

Quantum Break

From the studio that brought you Max Payne, this sci-fi game will blend live action sequences with gameplay. It arrives in 2014.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt

The final installment in the Witcher saga arrives next year.
