Happy new year! Sony has released two brand-new high-res pics from its upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man film to whet our appetites. (Sadly, still no new trailer in sight.) One has our friendly neighborhood
Spider-Man Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) looking not-so-friendly, while the other shows a mourning Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).
The two pics don't reveal too much of the film's plotline, but the first pic has Peter looking a bit like a street-corner drug dealer in an unfriendly neighborhood, and the second one shows Gwen Stacy at a funeral (a scene we've seen before in other pics). But whose funeral?
For those of you who are a little familiar with the history of our favorite web-slinger—or have seen Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man movie—you may all be right in thinking that this funeral scene could be that of Peter's Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen). Then again, it could be that of someone else entirely, because:
Like most teenagers his age, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. In his journey to put the pieces of his past together he uncovers a secret that his father held ... a secret that will ultimately shape his destiny as Spider-Man. This is the first in a series of movies that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story.
(Click on the pics to see them in their ginormous glory.)
Web-slinging to a theater (and IMAX 3D) near you on July 3, 2012, director Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man also stars Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan and Sally Field.
