Wesen are the things nightmares are made of, and Grimm is filled with them. Over the past five seasons, we've seen every creepy crawler you can imagine come to life. Some are classic incarnations, while others are modernized versions with a twist. Either way, they're unique creations that aren't easily forgotten.

Only the most innovate monsters are on my radar. With over 100 episodes in the can, it wasn't easy to narrow it down. But the cream always rises to the top. Some Wesen are more horrifying than others but their look gives them a competitive edge. Does it shoot fire? Can it glow in the dark? Is venom involved?

With so many to choose from, I've ranked the best of the bunch, starting with what some may consider an unlikely choice.

What is your favorite Wesen? Did it make the list?

30.   Hasenfussige Schnecke  (Season 5, Episode 6)

The Hasenfussige Schnecke is a fish-like blob that's known for its cowardice. They're fairly emotional creatures whose body's are covered in watery mucus. How delightful!

29.   Steinadler (Season 1, Episode 13)

One of many bird-inspired Wesen, Steinalders are known for their superior vision. It's no wonder they look and act like hawks.

28.   Seltenvogel - (Season 1, Episode 16)

This Wesen is extremely rare. The Seltenvogel is usually marked prey because of its ability to produce, Unbezahlbar, a golden egg that must be carefully extracted from their throats.

27.   Fuchsteufelwild  (Season 2, Episode 16)

No, this isn't a Spider-Man villain, although it is inspired by the same creature. The Fuchsteufelwild is a goblin-like monster that loves to play tricks on its victims. They're the Rumpelstiltskins of the Wesen world.

26.   Musai  (Season 2, Episode 20)

Isn't she a beauty? The Musai is sparkly, elf-ish, and passionate about the arts. Oh, and it has a knack for emotional manipulation.

25.   Kackenkopf  (Season 5, Episode 12)

Kackenkopfs are the worst. They're volatile creatures that are known for going off the deep-end. Just look at Tony, Rosalee's ex-boyfriend.

24.   Balam (Season 2, Episode 9)

Balams are aggressive and obsessive -- a dangerous combination. They're inspired by the jaguar, with colors ranging from gray to purple to blue.

23.   Spinnetod  (Season 1, Episode 11)

If you hate spiders, skip this Wesen. Female Spinnetods are fast, agile, and have regenerative properties. They shed their skin every five years and must consume a male's insides to finish the process. Gross.

22.   Fuilcré (Season 5, Episode 9)

The Fuilcré are a disgruntled bunch. They have a history of holding rain rituals in which they crucify human sacrifices.

21.   Furis Rubian (Season 5, Episode 16)

Furis Rubian are typically non-violent but are often misidentified as the Devil himself. The red skin and horns might have something to do with it.

20.   Gelumcaedus (Season 3, Episode 7)

It may look like Reptile from Mortal Kombat but the Gelumcaedus is much deadlier. This alligator monster's known for tearing its victims limb from limb.

19.   Vibora Dorada (Season 5, Episode 13)

Vibora Doradas have a specific skillset. They paralyze victims, strip them of their skin, and make masks out of it. It's very Silence of the Lambs.

18.   Jinnamuru Xunte (Season 2, Episode 15)

The Jinnamuru Xunte is basically a supernatural fly. It has sharp teeth and is extremely fast but those aren't its most dangerous traits. They have a habit of blinding people by spraying worms into their eyes.

17.   Luison (Season 4, Episode 5)

Luisons are wolves in human clothing. Their charming personalities are a means to an end. They're the most selfish and greedy Wesen you'll ever (not) meet.

16.    Mauvais Dentes (Season 2, Episode 1)

Did somebody say saber-toothed tiger? Mauvais Dentes are strong fighters who are fiercely independent, like cats. But they're also narrow-minded and allow nothing to get in their way.

15.    Inugami (Season 5, Episode 17)

An Inugami is a dog-inspired creature that takes loyalty to the extreme. They're family guardians who will murder indiscriminately if they feel their loved ones are in danger.

14.   Glühenvolk  (Season 2, Episode 19)

Glühenvolks look a lot like aliens due to their bulbous heads and glowing skin. When females become pregnant, they prey on cows and consume their ovaries. It's their version of prenatal vitamins.

13.   Dämonfeuer  (Season 1, Episode 14)

Every fairy tale needs a big bad dragon. Dämonfeuers  are as old-school they come. Keep your guns to yourself. Their fire breath can melt almost any modern weapon.

12.   Murciélago (Season 1, Episode 20)

Murciélagos are batty, in looks and personality. They quickly go from one emotional extreme to the next. You never know what you're going to get. Plus, they're hideous.

11.   El Cucuy   (Season 3, Episode 5)

There's nothing scarier than a mean old lady. That's why Grimm's take on El Cucuy aka the Bogeyman struck a cord. It's a universal terror.

 10.   Koschie (Season 3, Episode 9)

Who knew Wesen could go nuclear? Koschies can dish out a serious dose of radioactive poisoning. But they're also amazing healers who can absorb other's pain.

9.   Manticore (Season 3, Episode 11)

Manticores are scorpion-lion hybrids whose tails are filled with deadly poison. One strike can deliver the ultimate death blow.

8.   Gedächtnis Esser (Season 4, Episode 1)

Gedächtnis Essers have multiple tentacles that latch onto a victim's head. Once secure, the Wesen can steal their memories and any personal information buried in their subconscious.

7.    Excandesco (Season 4 Episode 13)

Like the phoenix, Excandesco scorches everything in its path.  Unlike other fire-centric Wesen, its entire body erupts into flames making it extremely difficult to contain.

6.    Cracher-Mortel - Season 2, Episode 21)

The Cracher-Mortel can do something most Wesen can't. It produces a toxin that can turn any and everybody, including a Grimm, into a zombie.

5.    Musasat Alsh-Shabab (Season 5, Episode 15)

The Musasat Alsh -Shabab will take years off your life. It pierces your face, drains your youth, and regurgitates it in liquid form. You'll go from 25  to 85 in no time.

4.    Hexenbiest  (Season 1, Episode 1)

A Hexenbiest was the first Wesen Nick ever saw wogue (Adalind). They are witch-like and steeped in the magical arts. They also have superhuman strength and are telekinetic.

3.    Aswang (Season 3, Episode 14)

Aswangs are spindly ghouls that have no problem eating babies, in or outside the womb. Keep your doors and windows locked. If they want you. They'll find you.

2.    Huntha Lami Muuaji  (Season 4, Episode 15)

The Huntha Lami Muuaji is a shape-shifter who can switch between genders. It has multiple yet separate personalities that share the same body. If one happens to be a murderer and overpowers the other -- you're out of luck.

1.     Krampus  (Season 3, Episode 8)

It doesn't matter how old you are, Krampus is a total nightmare. It's a horrifying alternative to Santa Klaus with demon and goat-like features. He appears at Christmastime, kidnaps bad children, and eats them at his leisure.
