Wizard World Comic Con Chicago wrapped up their busy weekend programming schedule on Sunday with the cast of Netflix’s Daredevil series and the always-candid Carrie Fisher. Here’s what you missed:
1. Carrie Fisher Didn’t Turn Down Terminator
An exasperated Fisher killed a common internet legend about how she turned down a chance to play Sarah Connor in James Cameron’s 1984 time travelling cyborg flick. (That role, of course, was played by Linda Hamilton.) “I was never even up for that,” Fisher said. “I never even heard about it remotely in my sphere of knowing.”
Fisher added that she also never turned down Blue Lagoon. “I was never in a position to turn things down,” she said.
2. George Lucas Can’t Erase Carrie Fisher’s Memory of the Life Day Song
Lucas famously said of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special, “If I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would track down every copy of that show and smash it.” But Fisher — who sounded like she may even own a copy of the special herself — remembers every excruciating detail. To prove it, she sweetly sang a few bars of the special’s “Life Day Song.”
3. Charlie Cox Thinks You Should Give Ben Affleck Another Chance
Most of Daredevil cast was in attendance, including Charlie Cox, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, Rosario Dawson, and Elodie Yung. Several noted that they were aware of the notorious reputation of the 2003 Daredevil movie before they were cast in the Netflix series. “I was scared,” said Dawson, pronouncing it like “skurred.” “I wanted what we were doing to not have to be better than something else, I wanted it to stand on its own.”
But Cox, who plays Matt Murdock (Daredevil) in the series, had high praise for the beleaguered Affleck. “I think Ben Affleck did a great job, I like his Matt Murdock,” Cox said. Then he added, “I think the movie has its problems.”
4. Deborah Ann Woll Hasn’t Watched Herself in Daredevil...
...but she might watch the upcoming Rifftrax on Daredevil. Woll declared that she was a huge Rifftrax fan, which is how she first saw the Affleck Daredevil movie. Although Woll said she doesn’t like to watch her own performances, she likes the bitingly sharp movie commentary series so much that she might break that rule when Rifftrax releases their upcoming commentary on the Netflix series. “I don’t know if I want the first time I watch my show to be my heroes mocking me,” Woll said.
5. Rosario Dawson Never Knows When Her Night Nurse Will Appear
When she signed on for the role of Claire Temple, the nurse who stitches up New York’s battered superheroes, Dawson had no idea her character would be the link connecting Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and (we assume) the other Netflix’s Marvel series: Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Defenders.
In fact, Dawson isn’t even sure which series she’s going to be in until she gets the scripts. “I sign up for episodes, but they don’t tell me what shows,” Dawson said. That’s probably less about ensuring secrecy regarding upcoming plots and more about making sure they’ve secured the schedule of a busy actress in a key guest-starring role. The rest of the cast said they’re not even sure when Season 3 of Daredevil will begin filming.
