7 actors who could replace Bruce Campbell in the Evil Dead remake

Evil Dead is getting a remake. These are words that have some fans of the cult-classic franchise turning into "deadites" ready to eat the brains of the people involved in making this happen. Still, it is happening nonetheless.

Based on what we know about the movie, it's a remake that will revolve around the basic outline of a new group of friends "who are beleaguered by demons in a cabin alone." Characters and minor story details will also change.

So since everyone's favorite Ash is not being recast (Bruce Campbell will be in a cameo toward the end of the film), we thought we would try to cast the new leader of the group of friends, who will inevitably be the new face of the franchise in the reboot. It seemed like the best choices ended up being guys we know who can balance humor with a serious tone but also guys who have had experience dealing with otherworldly baddies.

Jensen Ackles

Star of The CW's popular Supernatural series, Ackles has experience with the otherworldly. His sharp wit in high-pressure situations always makes for a charming yet adventurous outcome. His role as the lead in an Evil Dead remake would put horror fans at ease, but also geeks hoping for someone who can play serious while having fun, something Campbell was always good at.

Nicholas Brendon

The former Buffy cast member has experience fighting off vamps and demons as Xander on the popular Joss Whedon series. He has also been a fan favorite over the past few years to replace Campbell as Ash. Since it is known that Ash will not be replaced, perhaps he could put his own spin on a new character.

Sean William Scott

Known best for his role as Stiffler in American Pie, Scott might be too old for a role in this film. However, the thought of him wielding a boomstick while fighting off demons seems like fun. Scott has that B-movie feel about him, but the notoriety of someone who has been in the spotlight a lot more. Also, he's never done a horror film, and it would be fun to see him in one.

Donald Glover

Troy Barnes on Community would be an interesting transplant into the world of Evil Dead. Glover has never played a serious role, only comedic, so his addition as the lead in this film could be a winner for everyone involved.

Adam Brody

Diablo Cody is rewriting the script for the film, so why not cast someone who knows her dialogue? Adam Brody, who recently starred in the horror comedy Jennifer's Body, could make for an interesting leader of a group of teens who find a cabin in the woods with demons.

Jonah Hill

The loudmouth fat kid from Superbad and Get Him to the Greek is about to get his first serious role in a 21 Jump Street remake, so perhaps he should continue that path in the Evil Dead remake as well. He's another guy who can mix humor and seriousness together, plus he's still got the teen look to him even though he's 27 years old.

Ryan Kwanten

This guy is a rising star, known for films like Red Hill and the more recent Griff the Invisible, but perhaps he is mostly known as Jason Stackhouse on True Blood. He will certainly get fans from True Blood in the seats, and his experience in the genre may also get him cast in the film.

So what do you think? Any of these guys seem right to replace Bruce Campbell? Or do you have someone else in mind?
