9 celebrity Kirk impressions you'll (sometimes) swear are Shatner

Capt. James T. Kirk, played by William Shatner, is one of sci-fi's most recognizable characters—and it's not just because of how good he looked in a gold shirt. It was Shatner's way of speaking that makes Kirk fodder for impersonators.

As Shatner himself once put it, Kirk speaks as if "Every. Word. Is. Its. Own. Sentence."

Many impersonators took Shatner's mannerisms and ran with them ... but perhaps too far, as seen by the multitude of mediocre Shatner imitators out there. But we found eight professional actors who can ape Capt. Kirk to the best of Shatner's ability.

Yes, there's a bit of Star Trek parody in these clips. But for the most part, they're parodies of Capt. Kirk himself.

Kevin Pollack

The most famous William Shatner impersonator, comedian Kevin Pollack is never afraid to overact.

Seth MacFarlane

It seems as if Family Guy scribe and actor Seth MacFarlane has memorized chunks of the episode "A Taste of Armageddon."

Ryan Reynolds

Who knew? Before he was pilot Hal Jordan, Ryan Reynolds was Capt. Kirk.

Will Sasso

One of the stars of Mad TV (who later worked with Shatner in $h*! My Dad Says), Will Sasso starred in this reimagining of the characters of Kirk and Spock in a 1974 variety show.

Jason Alexander

Shatner himself uploaded this video to his YouTube channel. (We also get a bit of Kevin Pollak in here too.)

Samm Levine

This might not be the best imitation out there. But actor Samm Levine won the role of Neal Schweiber on TV show Freaks and Geeks, thanks to this impersonation of The Shat, which went on his audition tape.

Frank Caliendo

Comedian Frank Caliendo star of former TBS sketch comedy show Frank TV, showed (fake) William Shatner teaching (fake) Chris Pine how to amp up his Capt. Kirk-ness.

John Belushi

The late, great John Belushi can't break character in this Saturday Night Live skit, even when it becomes clear that Star Trek is just a television show.

Vic Mignogna

Voice-over superstar Vic Mignogna isn't just an actor: He's also a geek. This is what happens when a geek with talent and talented friends get hold of a replica jacket from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
