With his plate already full with everything from Pacific Rim 2 to ongoing FX series The Strain, Guillermo del Toro shocked us all recently with news that his long-dormant film A Killing on Carnival Row is being reworked as an Amazon TV series.

Well, it got us thinking — and there are a lot of other awesome would-be sci-fi flicks stuck in development hell that could also work on television. From aborted superhero stories to ambitious genre tales, there is no shortage of ambitious movies that have stumbled down the line and never seen the light of day.

We’re digging deep with this one, and made it a point to avoid any projects that are actually showing signs (no matter how faint) of potential development recently. That’s the reason you won’t see films like Stephen King’s long-gestating The Dark Tower on this list. Plus, that one was also already eyeing a television component to go with a series of films, anyway.

So without further ado, here are the stalled sci-fi films we’d love to see revived for television (and why we think it’d work). Have a candidate we didn't mention? Let us know in the comments!
