X-Men: The Animated Series was one of the best superhero shows of the '90s. Now, for its 20th anniversary, a new tribute has debuted online. It's an awesome video that uses action figures and stop motion to re-create its opening.

The folks at Reckless Abandonment Pictures have given X-Men's iconic intro a makeover. Even if you weren't a fan of the show, you'd know that opening anywhere. The theme song alone has a special place in our hearts.

According to director Kyle Roberts' YouTube page, they took over 4,000 individual pictures and spent two months rotoscoping and animating the effects. The background images were drawn by Nathan Poppe, while Colin Nance and Zach Zellar re-created the music from scratch.

Everyone's hard work paid off, because here's the finished product. Enjoy!

X-Men: The Animated Series ran from 1992-1997.
