It feels like it has been a while since cinema gave us a good ol'-fashioned space western. Luckily Westworld has filled that space quite well, but sometimes you just want a big screen adventure. Well, you won't have to wait much longer for one, as Prospect, an atmospheric new sci-fi film, will be premiering at SXSW next week.
Directed by Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell, Prospect tells the story of a father-daughter duo who travel to a toxic alien moon to prospect for a very rare gem. Once there, they must contend with the forest's ruthless inhabitants, as well as the father, whose greed has disrupted his judgment and forces his daughter to find a way to escape. Prospect stars Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell from Game of Thrones) as the father and Sophie Thatcher (young Regan on The Exorcist TV series) as his daughter.
This is the feature directorial debut from Earl and Caldwell. Prospect is based on the short film of the same name, which the pair shot together in 2014 after getting over $20,000 in funds on Kickstarter. The short premiered at SXSW as well.
