A new study names Game of Thrones the 'most binge-able' show ever

Whether you have Netflix running until it asks if you're still watching or you blow through an entire Blu-ray box set in a single weekend, chances are at this point you have definitely binge-watched something. It's the way we consume media now, like a personalized version of the James Bond marathons that air on cable.

People will regularly tear through several seasons of their favorite TV series in a matter of days. The question isn't if people binge watch. The question is what do people binge watch the most?

The answer, at least according to one study, is Game of Thrones.

According to a new poll done by OnePoll.com, commissioned by Samsung UK as part of a promotion for their line of QLED televisions, the 2,000 people surveyed named HBO's epic fantasy series the show they're most likely to binge. Given that the show is among the most popular (and most pirated) series on TV right now, that's not too surprising, particularly as it heads into its final season. Coming in second was AMC's crime drama Breaking Bad, with period drama Downton Abbey coming in third, zombie hit The Walking Dead fourth, and legendary mafia series The Sopranos in fifth.

The survey seems to also confirm what we already knew: The rise of on-demand and streaming services mean that people are more likely to binge watch, because whatever they want to see is at their fingertips. You can take in whole universes from the comfort of your laptop, and if you've got a smart TV anything you'd like to watch on Netflix is just a push of a button away. That said, various respondents in the survey also said that the rise of binge watching has also meant that they're more likely to buy a whole box set and binge the whole thing. So, even physical media is getting a boost in some ways.

The results of the study are interesting, but what might be even more interesting is to revisit this in five years, when Game of Thrones has long since ended and The Walking Dead might be done too. When the TV landscape shifts, what shows will take their place at the top of the binge-watching heap?
