“You don’t belong in this time. Or any time.” The time-travel game is afoot. ABC has picked up Kevin Williamson’s (Scream, The Vampire Diaries) pilot Time After Time to series, which sees H.G. Wells pursue Jack the Ripper across time. And to whet our appetite, the network has released a first-look teaser that you can see below.
Based on the 1979 novel by Karl Alexander, which speculated what might happen if H.G. Wells had built a real time machine (that'd been really cool), the new series will feature the time-travel adventures of the legendary science fiction writer as he finds himself transported to modern-day Manhattan in pursuit of Jack the Ripper. Once in the Big Apple, he finds a world he never believed could be possible … and a young woman who captivates him. The 1979 movie starring Malcolm McDowell and David Warner as H.G. Wells and Jack the Ripper will also serve as a springboard.
Time After Time will boast a cast that includes Harry Potter actor Freddie Stroma (UnREAL) in the role of H.G. Wells, Josh Bowman (Revenge) as John Stevenson/Jack the Ripper, Genesis Rodriguez (Big Hero 6, Tusk) as Jane and Regina Taylor (The Unit, Dig) as Vanessa Anders.
The series hails from Outerbanks Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television. Marcos Siega (The Following, Blindspot) has directed the pilot, penned by Kevin Williamson. Both will act as executive producers on the TV show.
