666 Park Avenue and Last Resort kinda sorta get some good news

With a solid bit of ratings data in the books, ABC has made a decision on two of its freshman series—the awesome Last Resort and the scary soap 666 Park Avenue. So what's the latest?

Sadly, it's not a renewal decision, but at least it's not a cancellation. The network has shown some tentative faith in the two series, ordering two additional scripts for both shows to see where the writers might go next.

Shawn Ryan's Last Resort is one of the best shows of the new season, focusing on a submarine crew forced to go rogue due to a growing conspiracy. To date the show has averaged a solid 7.8 million viewers and 1.9 in the adults 18-49 demo.

666 Park Avenue is a guilty pleasure at best, like a decent take on Rosemary's Baby, and has pulled in an admittedly ho-hum 5.6 million viewers per week over the past month.

Ryan recently told The Hollywood Reporter he believes ABC is pleased with Last Resort from a creative standpoint, and willing to give it a chance to grow:

"Everyone would always like to have the No. 1 show on TV. Instead, we're going against the No. 1 show on TV with Big Bang Theory. I think ABC acknowledges that we're doing better than their previous shows in the time slot over the past few years, and they love the show creatively."
It'll be interesting to see if either of these get picked up, but if we had to pick one, you'd have to think Last Resort's critical buzz would have it at the top of the bubble.

What do you think? Who's your pick for a second season?
