Not surprisingly, J.J. Abrams will have a few more new shows on TV this fall, and now we have the first look at his NBC series Believe.

This one isn’t quite as straightforward as his new robo-cop drama Almost Human at Fox, though NBC is betting on the golden goose anyway and officially picked the pilot up for a series order. It has the potential to be one of the most ambitious (or terrible) shows of the fall. So, we'll see.

The fantasy-ish pitch follows the “unlikely relationship that develops between a young girl with a gift and a man sprung from prison who has been tasked with protecting her from the evil elements that hunt her power.”

The first pic from the pilot (seen above) shows off the young girl and her protector, though it’s hard to glean much more from the pic. It’ll be interesting to see the mythology that Abrams and company have in mind for this one, since it’s a pretty strange premise to build a series around.

In addition to Abrams, the series is also being developed by Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), Mark Friedman (The Forgotten) and Bryan Burk (Fringe, Lost). It stars Jake McLaughlin, Kyle MacLachlan, Delroy Lindo, Sienna Guillory, Jamie Chung, Johnny Sequoyah and Arian Moayed.

Do you plan on checking this one out?
