Another comic-based movie is coming to the big screen, and this one has a pretty epic sci-fi twist. Get read to meet the FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics.
The acclaimed comic, which launched in 2013 on Vertigo, follows a federal agency tasked with investigating all kinds of weird and wacky scientific insanity. From gravity failures to wormholes and quantum tornadoes — the FBP is who gets the call. Think Fringe, but on a larger scale.
The script is being written by Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) and produced by David Goyer (Man of Steel), from a treatment cooked up by comic co-creator Simon Oliver at Warner Bros. Interesting note: Marks and Goyer previously worked together on that unproduced Green Arrow: Escape From Supermax script, which is apparently pretty awesome.
Here’s the synopsis of the comic, which sets up the story of a young, up-and-coming agent in the FBP:
FBP: Federal Bureau of Physics is the story of Adam Hardy: Young, brash and smart, he's a rising star at the FBP, but when a gravity failure leads to the creation of an alternate dimension known as a "BubbleVerse," Adam is sent on a rescue mission and finds his skills and abilities pushed to their limits when he discovers his partner has a different agenda.
The comic is relatively young, but we can see why Warner Bros. was attracted to it. It definitely has potential to be an awesome sci-fi flick, and since they’re working from a treatment by Oliver, it should at least be somewhat loyal to the comic canon.
Do you read the comic? Think it’ll be a good fit for the big screen?
