We’re sure that to some folks there are plenty of Adam Sandler flicks that feel more like horror movies when they’re watching them (cough: Jack and Jill). Now one clever movie fan has proved this point by re-cutting the trailer for Sandler’s sports-romance-comedy Happy Gilmore and giving it a chilling new look, just in time for Halloween.

“Happy Killmore” is a hilarious two-and-half-minute re-imagining of the 1996 classic, by YouTube user Joey Thompson, with Christopher McDonald’s character Shooter McGavin as the would-be movie’s protagonist, who is hunted by a not-so Happy Gilmore.

Thanks to some darkly comic moments already in the movie, this redone version works perfectly, helped by the lashings of scary movie music thrown in over the top.

You may recall that in the original movie, Gilmore is trying to win a golf tournament to raise money for his grandmother, who has fallen on hard times. But in this warped version, he’s an unhinged maniac who is inspired to violently kill his competitors, after cracking under the pressure of providing high ratings for television.

We’re now hugely interested to see what handiwork can be done to the rest of Sandler’s cinematic oeuvre. Anyone for 50 First Death Dates, The Slaughter Boy, or Just Go With IT: Pennywise? OK, we’ll stop now.
