With his Castelvania animated series hitting later this week, filmmaker Adi Shankar (Dredd) has already lined up his next project — Assassin’s Creed. The animated series, that is.

Shankar has announced a new deal with Ubisoft to develop the hit video game franchise as an anime-style animated series. Shankar teased an original story within this world, and the universe is certainly a big one, so there are more than a few compelling corners (and eras) for Shankar to draw from. It sounds like he’s also a fan of the games, so he should bring a level of know-how to the mechanics and storytelling that were somewhat missing from the live-action film.

Much like Castlevania, Assassin’s Creed seems to be an excellent candidate for anime-style visuals. Can you imagine that sweeping action and those assassin moves rendered in tight anime art? It should be something to see.

No word on where this project might land as far as a network or streaming service, but if Castlevania turns out to be a hit for Netflix, it stands to reason that could be a viable home.

Are you glad to see this one in the works? Interested in checking it out?
