Adrianne Palicki shares why it's a 'blessing' her Wonder Woman pilot failed

The Wonder Woman that almost was may have hung up her Lasso of Truth early, but these days she's OK with that.

We're all spending a lot of time right now contemplating what Gal Gadot's incarnation of Wonder Woman will do when she appears in Zack Snyder's Batman vs. Superman film in 2015, but less than two years ago we were just beginning to think about another actress -- Red Dawn and G.I. Joe: Retaliation star Adrianne Palicki -- as the Amazonian warrior.

Back in February 2011, Palicki was cast in the lead role of David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman pilot for NBC, and after months of fan speculation, a bad costume, then a better costume, and finally filming a pilot, NBC chose not to add the series to its fall 2011 schedule even after it seemed to many that the show was a lock for a series order. Palicki was left with a Wonder Woman career that lasted only one episode, and while it wasn't easy for her to leave behind the opportunity that she describes as "maybe one of the coolest things ever," she's looking at not being Wonder Woman these days as a "blessing."

“I was devastated when it didn’t go and it was expected to. It was one of those things that was shocking," Palicki told IGN. "But in retrospect it was probably a blessing. It would’ve been a really hard thing to shoot. And I got to wear the costume -- I should say, I got paid to wear the costume! So not many people get to say that. [laughs] I’m really blessed to have gotten to do that and maybe someday down the line I’ll get to play that character or another awesome icon again.”

So, she may not be Wonder Woman, but Palicki's got plenty of other gigs on her plate, including more action-movie opportunities in the form of the forthcoming third installment in the G.I. Joe franchise, which she said will feature more of her character, Lady Jaye. As for superheroes, she's still got her eye on a chance to save the world onscreen one day.

“I’m waiting for Supergirl," she said.

What do you think? Does Palicki still have a chance at a superhero comeback, even though Wonder Woman is now taken?
