Weâve been hearing Batman v Superman would borrow heavily from the iconic Dark Knight Returns comic storyline that pitted the two heroes against one another, and now the new Bruce Wayne himself has chimed in.
With Ben Affleck hitting the interview circuit to promote his new flick Gone Girl (which is apparently pretty good), he was asked about the influence of Frank Millerâs 1986 miniseries that features arguably the most famous battle between Bats and Supes. Affleck confirms Synderâs film is âheavily influencedâ by the comic, which is good news for us â because, yeah, that comic is awesome.
Check out an excerpt from Affleckâs comments to MTV below:
"Yeah, I don't want to answer too many Batman questions because it is a Gone Girl thing, but I will say that I think Zack [Snyder] was heavily influenced by that. I think everyone's heavily influenced by that...that's the seminal work. So, I don't think that there's any of these which have been made that haven't drawn from that book because it's so good. So, you know, I think if you're smart you steal from the best. That's why I'm going to rip [Gone Girl director] David [Fincher] off from now on everywhere I go!â
Itâs taken almost three decades, but it sounds like weâre finally getting the Dark Knight Returns movie weâve always wanted -- or, at least, something that draws heavily from it. Hereâs hoping Snyder isnât so distracted with introducing a half-dozen new characters to set up the next sequel (aka âIron Man 2 syndromeâ) that he loses focus on the superhero story we actually want to see. You know, the Batman vs. Superman part.
To his credit, the interviewer also tried to get Affleck to show off his Batman voice, but the actor joked it takes âIMAX money to see that.â Hey, canât blame him for trying. Check out the video of the interview below and let us know what you think:
